Welcome to Beth Israel

Beth Israel is an egalitarian congregation in which men and women participate equally in the ritual and spiritual life of the synagogue community. We are a congregation that affirms the inclusion of everyone in Jewish life. We provide a supportive, welcoming Jewish community for interfaith families and welcome lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals and families.

We are passionate about engagement in Judaism through the study of Torah, acts of loving-kindness and tikkun olam in our congregation and community, and through meaningful worship that draws on the skills and dedication of our members.

Beth Israel is here for you regardless of your race, income or occupation, whether you are employed or unemployed, single or married or in a committed relationship. Our services are traditional and participatory and our educational offerings are informative, challenging and diverse. We invite you to join us as we learn together and pray together as a community.

Our congregation is dedicated to strengthening our connections with our people here in Ann Arbor, in Israel, and throughout the world.

We are proud of our connection with Israel and offer many opportunities to strengthen that relationship through our providing scholarships to teens who travel to Israel, our cross generational family trips, our sponsorship of serious and respectful dialogue, our commitment to hosting speakers representing many different perspectives on Israel and our planning of the annual community Yom Hazikaron ceremony.

We are dedicated to deepening our commitment to working on community issues here at home. Our congregation was among the founding members of the interfaith Round Table of Washtenaw County and continues to support its many efforts.

We are active participants in many tikkun olam efforts in Washtenaw County including the Interfaith Hospitality Network, the rotating shelter for the homeless, Habitat for Humanity and the Faith and Food program.

We invite you to join us as we learn together, pray together, and work together for tikkun olam- perfecting the world.

We look forward to welcoming you to Beth Israel Congregation!
