Minutes of Board Meeting of April 25, 2007Beth Israel Board Meeting MinutesWednesday, April 25, 2007 Present: Finerman, Rosenblum, Bernstein, Sussman, Bardenstein, Gershowitz, Liberman-Lampear, Peller, Landau, L. Adler, D. Adler, Lamm, Rubenstein, Winkelman, Sorkin, Dobrusin. Finerman opened meeting at 8:05 p.m. Minutes corrected and approved. D'var Torah – Rabbi Dobrusin gave a D'var Torah on current issues facing Israel and the Jewish people. Rabbi's Report – Attendance improvement is necessary for Friday night services. The ICJP exec and its new President, member Ruth Kraut, will be invited to an upcoming Board Meeting. Winkelman expressed appreciation for the support of the Rabbi and Board during her bereavement. . President's Report – Finerman thanked the Board for Minyan support. Purchase of newly revised Encyclopedia Judaica has s been underwritten by Aminoff and Rosenblum. Motion: To purchase electric food warmers with funding from Gershowitz ($1,000) and Building Fund ($1,800). Bardenstein made motion, Liberman-Lampear seconded. President Finerman serves on the Federation Task Force. Funds from the participating organizations will be requested. The Board requested a clearer idea of those possible expenses. Two persons will be asked to serve on a new coordinating committee for the Task Force. Treasurer's Report – Liberman-Lampear reported that school income has been lower than last year at this time. A special letter to those who have remaining balances has been sent out. Net amount realized from 90th Anniversary Event at Beth Israel is $13,181. On-line Billing Motion: Made by Liberman-Lampear and seconded by Bardenstein will change method of banking and save on checks, postage, and envelopes. Motion passed. Executive Director's Report – Sorkin announced that 2010 will be accommodating the Ann Arbor Orthodox Minyan Services from May 5th though July of 2007, during renovations at the Hillel building. The staff has scheduled a second staff retreat to discuss select issues raised at the last retreat which set much of the calendar for coming year. Finance Report – At present we are showing a net income of $110, 902. Total expense is currently 713.541 vs. the projected amount for the end of the year of $926, 175. Membership Report – Gershowitz informed the Board that the committee is working to revise the membership brochure to be informative and attractive. A new “mentoring program" for new members is under development. Programs Report – Sussman reported on the successful Beth Israel gardening project under the leadership of Sam Zwetchkenbaum. Religious Committee Report - Bernstein suggested a number of ideas to increase minyan attendance.
