Minutes of Board Meeting of February 20, 2008

Board Minutes Summary
Wednesday, February 20, 2008

Rabbi Dobrusin recommended that the joint Israeli/Palestinian “Process Toward Peace” presentation on March 8 (co-sponsored by TBE, Federation of Washtenaw County, Recon Havura and others) at the JCC be co-sponsored by Beth Israel. Approved unanimously by Board.
Carol Finerman reported that the BIC Mitzvah Connection is functioning. There are 28 coordinators who will call every congregant. The Rabbi will be the staff advisor. Anita Liberman-Lampear, Treasurer, reviewed the January 07-08 income/expense report summary as well as the January 08 Balance Statement. The budget is still projected to end in the black, provided that dues payments come in as expected.
Elliot Sorkin, Executive Director, summarized the goals of the Beth Israel grant proposal which he will submit for final approval to the Legacy Foundation. He requested that the Board as a body formally approve the suggestions in the proposal so this may be included in the proposal. This was approved unanimously.
Beth Dwoskin reported that Shirley Norton, the librarian for many years, will resign effective this summer. Shirley will be honored for her dedication at the Annual Congregational meeting in June 2008. The position for a part time librarian will be posted
Amy Colton reported that the Religious School would like to send 5 teachers to the CAJE conference in Burlington VT. The transportation costs are expected to be higher this year, and various suggestions were offered to cover these costs.
Jeff Bernstein, Religious Vice President, informed the board that Cantor Jay Shiovitz may be available to do an event on congregational singing at the Congregation in November 2008. There continue to be Minyan attendance issues – suggestions include emailing all those in the 48104 zip code to help out, including minyan sign-up information in every membership renewal packet, and encouraging Post Bar/Bat Mitzvah persons attend a minyan, after their Bar Mitzvah.
