Minutes of Board Meeting of September 27, 2006Beth Israel CongregationBoard Meeting Wednesday, September 27, 2006 Present: Finerman, Landau, Rashes, Rosenblum, Sorkin, Peller, Gershowitz, Sussman, Lamm, Rubenstein, Bardenstein, Bernstein, Bareket, Dobrusin Meeting called to order at 8:04 p.m. Agenda was approved as presented Minutes were corrected and approved. President's Report: Finerman extended kudos to those who organized the High Holy Day services. She reported that the United Synagogue Regional convention will be held in Cleveland at the end of October. Persons in leadership positions are encouraged to attend. Treasurer's Report: In Lieberman-Lampear's absence Rosenblum reviewed income projections. He reviewed his recommendation for using cash accounts to pay off renovation loan and thereby decreasing interest payments which he will present to the Finance Committee... Executive Director's Report: Sorkin recommended ordering 100 Sim Shalom prayer books, to be paid from the Prayer Book Fund. Congregants may help to defray the cost by dedicating the books in honor of memory of a loved one. He also recommended the purchase of a new computer for the religious school library, to be subsidized by the Religious School Activities Fund. There is also a need for a DVD player to show films to up to 100 people, with funds to come from Religious School. Motion: Rashes moved approval to purchase 100 Sim Shalom Shabbat and Festival prayer books, seconded by Landau. Passed. Motion: Bareket moved and Bardenstein seconded computer purchase. Passed, subject to further review to determine if used computer would be appropriate. Motion: Rashes moved and Bernstein seconded purchase of DVD player for up to $1300, subject to further review to determine appropriate model. Passed. Old Business: 90th Anniversary plans continue on track. Sussman reported that there are no zoning restrictions on a sign in front of synagogue. Our architect will be consulted regarding details. The board confirmed that Finerman's address on erev Rosh Hashana was well received. New Business: Dobrusin stated that services went well. Vice Presidents Reports: Administration: Rashes pleased with ushering volunteers. Reported on Oleinick retirement and some observance in her honor. Education: Bardenstein announced upcoming visit of Danny Siegel in October, through grants received by the Jewish Educator's Council, requested by Cindy Saper. Several programs will be held for different age groups. 41 madrichim assist a very capable religious school staff. Curriculum improvements are underway. Religious: Bernstein extended thanks to those who participated in services and the planning of the holidays. He suggested that Ahronheim should be honored for his long and devoted service. Membership: Gershowitz reported that welcome baskets have been delivered to 12 new member families. A new member dinner will be held on October 18. There are plans for several other programs to be offered for various age groups. Cemetery Committee: Sorkin announced that Arborcrest has presented a proposal for Beth Israel to purchase new plots.
