Social Action Committee

This committee is involved in a large variety of outreach activities to the local community in Washtenaw County. It offers educational events on local, national and international affairs, fosters the "greening of the congregation," and pursues other tikkun olam and social action activities. The committee sponsors lectures on current events including the Middle East, partners with local organizations such as the Habitat for Humanity, and sponsors the annual Overflow Shelter for Homeless Men which takes place at Beth Israel for a week around Christmas and New Year, as well as the annual Red Cross Blood Drive. In addition, the committee designates contributions from the Social Action Fund each year to local charitable organizations.
