Twistin' the Night Away in Shushan (orig. Sam Cooke)

Let me tell you 'bout a place, Somewhere up in Shushan way
Where the people go to partay, Twistin' the night away
Here they have a lot of fun, Overeating, drinking rum
Man, you find the old and young, Twistin' the night away

They're twistin', twistin'
Everybody's feelin' great
They're twistin', twistin'
They're twistin' the night away

Follow your katzin:
Lean kadimah [forward], now achorah [backward]
Lean smolah [left], now yeminah [right]
Now sivuv [twirl] it, now hora [circle dance], now twist
They're twistin' the night away

Here's a man in royal clothes, How he got here, I don't know, but
Man, you oughta see him go, Twistin' the night away
His girl’s dress is oh so bright, She's a movin' left and right
Oh man, there ain't nothin' like, Twistin' the night away

They're twistin', twistin'
Everybody's feelin' great
They're twistin', twistin'
They're twistin' the night

Follow your katzin:
Lean kadimah [forward], now achorah [backward]
Lean smolah [left], now yeminah [right]
Now sivuv [twirl] it, now hora [circle dance], now twist
They're twistin' the night away

Bei Mir Bist du Sheyn (Jacob Jacobs & Sholom Secunda)

Of all the girls I've known, and I've known some,
Until I first met you I was lonesome,
And when you came in sight, dear, my heart grew light
And this old world seemed new to me.
You're really swell I have to admit, you
Deserve expressions that really fit you,
And so I've racked my brain, hoping to explain
All the things that you do to me.

Bay mir bistu sheyn, Bay mir hos tu heyn, Bay mir bistu eyner oyf der velt.
Bay mir bistu sheyn, Bay mir hostu heyn, Bay mir bistu tayerer fun gelt.
Fil sheyne meydlekh hobn gevolt nemen mir,
Un fun zey ale oysgeklibn hob ikh nor dikh.
Bay mir bistu sheyn, Bay mir hos tu heyn, Bay mir bistu eyner oyf der velt.

Bei mir bistu shein, please let me explain,
"Bei mir bistu shein" means you're grand.
Bei mir bistu shein, again I'll explain,
It means you're the fairest in the land.

I could say "bella, bella", even say "wunderbar".
Each language only helps me tell you how grand you are.
I've tried to explain "Bei mir bistu shein".
So kiss me and say you understand.

Friend of the Devil (orig. Jerry Garcia, Robert Hunter, John Dawson)

I’m the king in Sushan,
It’s hard to wear the crown
Thinkin about the day’s events
'till the morning came around.

There was a guy named Mordecai
A friend of Esther is a friend of mine
He stopped a plot to kill me
And I will praise his name... TONIGHT

Next day met with Haman
Gave me ten thousand bills
“Put it in the treasury
If all the Jews you kill”

I sent out an edict, I didn’t decline
A friend of the Devil, now’s a friend of mine
He sure is a nice Agagite
Let all sit down and feast... TONIGHT

There’s two reasons Esther cries, each and every night
The first one's cousin Mordecai who says to do what’s right
The second one is prison, when you demand to see the king,
Cause if he didn’t invite you, you might just lose your skin.

Esther began her fasting, right there and then
Got up her courage to see the king
And then she walked right in.

“Please have a feast by my design
The friend of the devil should come on time
If things go the way I plan
Justice will prevail…. TONIGHT!

There’s two reasons Esther cries, each and every night
The first one's cousin Mordecai who says to do what’s right
The second one is prison, when you demand to see the king,
Cause if he didn’t invite you, you might just lose your skin.

You've got to change your evil ways, Haman. Before we start hangin' you.
You've got to change, Haman. And ev'ry word that I say is true.
You stop your plottin', against us, to wipe out  our  towns. Queen Esther's pleadin',  to  save  us,  will  keep  us  around. This can't go on....

Lord knows you've got to change, Haman. When you're at home, Haman.
Your house is dark and your thoughts are cold.
You hang around,  Haman.  With nasty Zeresh and who knows who. We're gettin tired of having you push us around.
We'll be a people, a nation, that you  can't put  down. This can't go on.... Yeah yeah yeah...
[You're  no good,  Haman]

We’re Still Standing (orig. Elton John)

It often feels like fate is never on our side
The Jews in Persia probably thought that they might die
Acts of courage then came up to see us through
A message for the ages, this Megillah says to you.

Since that time we sometimes feel we’ll never win
But Am Yisrael Chai and we come back again
There’s always a new Haman trying to cut us down
And you know that we’re still standing, while other nations can’t be found

Don't you know we’re still standing better than we ever did
We really are survivors, teachin’ this to our kids
We’re still standing after all this time
L’dor va dor we keep it Jewish and that works fine
We’re still standing (Yeah, yeah, yeah)
We’re still standing (Yeah, yeah, yeah)

Don't you know we’re still standing better than we ever did
We really are survivors, teachin’ this to our kids
We’re still standing after all this time
L’dor va dor we keep it Jewish and that works fine
We’re still standing (Yeah, yeah, yeah) (repeat)
