Job Description
General
This part-time position works as a proactive, participatory member of the office staff team and works cooperatively with all other staff members. The staff person represents the congregation in all contact with members, prospects, and the general community.
Financial
Functions Responsibilities include all payables, payroll, financial reports, and working with the executive director on budget development and monitoring, fund transfers, and account balancing.
Payables
- Assists with submission of check requests for payments.
- Confirms accuracy of any out-of-the-ordinary expenses
- Generates checks.
QuickBooks Reports
- Generates income statements and funds reports.
- Generates accounting reports.
- Reports on income and expenses for financial accounts.
Account Maintenance
- Reconciles bank, investment, and endowment accounts.
- Completes end-of-month closure procedures, including fund transfers.
- Completes end-of-year closing of accounts, including annual transfers from funds.
- Maintains synagogue accounting files (hard copies).
Payroll
- Generates biweekly payroll.
- Updates payroll information for new and continuing employees.
- Tracks and updates employee sick, vacation, holiday, mileage, insurance, and other payroll income and deductions.
Year End
- Performs annual closures and transfers.
- Submits annual 1096 and 1099 forms on behalf of Beth Israel.
This half-time position with flexible hours averaging 20 hours per week may be remote and/or on site. It requires the ability to sit at a desk for extended periods of time, computer literacy, including Microsoft office, excel, QuickBooks, and the synagogue database.
