Membership
Thanks so much for your interest in Beth Israel. We look forward to welcoming you to our community. If you have any questions about membership, dues, or any other aspect of the congregation, please feel free to contact us (734-665-9897; bjarvis@bethisrael-aa.org)
Membership
Membership is open to all Jewish individuals age 18 years or older and their household. We welcome everyone regardless of race, sexual orientation, or income whether single, married, or in a committed relationship. Beth Israel is an inclusive congregation warmly welcoming interfaith families and LGBT individuals and families.
Membership includes:
- Admission to High Holiday services (out of town relatives may attend at a reduced rate)
- Rabbinic support for lifecycle events and in times of difficulty
- Religious School (additional tuition fees may be required)
- Bar/Bat mitzvah family series
- Adult education classes and programs
- Reduced fees on facility rentals
- Use of adult and children’s library
Fair Share Dues System
Our Fair Share Dues System allows everyone to participate equitably in supporting our congregation. We ask all congregants to make a dues pledges that represents 2% of your household income (you are not asked to disclose your income). Dues may be paid monthly, quarterly or annually, and pledges must be paid off by June 30, the end of the membership year.
The Fair Share System also reflects one of our core values at Beth Israel; we will not deny membership to anyone due to financial inability to pay. Those whose financial circumstances make it overly burdensome to pay 2% of their income may contact Director of Operations Beth Jarvis (734-665-9897 or bjarvis@bethisrael-aa.org) to discuss a dues reduction or scholarship assistance for religious school tuition.
Individuals or families under the age of 35 may join for $300 in their first year (plus United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism dues for $37.25)
Individuals or families who join the congregation in April, May or June, which is at the end of the membership year, will enjoy membership for up to 15 months.
How Do I Apply?
Please submit the Pledge Form and Membership Information Form along with an initial dues payment. These PDF forms are available below. If you wish to request a dues/tuition reduction, submit the form first with an amount you can afford and contact the Executive Director for a confidential conversation.
