Middle School Bonus Chugim

We are excited to roll out Bonus Chugim (electives) for middle school students! These are included for free for all enrolled BIRS 6th-8th graders, and require a minimum of five students in order to run. 

Registration is now open for all chugim. 

Conversational/Intermediate Hebrew with Moreh Oren Segal (for HDS grads at TBE and BIRS) This class is primarily for HDS alumni with a strong foundation in Hebrew vocabulary and grammar.

Tefillah Kavanah (BIRS ONLY) with Aviva Panush This class is for all students who want a better understanding of and relationship with prayer.

High School Chugim

BIRS is pleased to roll out High School Chugim (electives) for 9th-12th graders. Over the course of the year we will offer several electives on a variety of topics; most chugim will be 4-8 weeks long, and some will be together with TBE students. All chugim will be over Zoom at least through December 2020.

Students can register and pay the $360 tuition, and then register for as many chugim as they would like.

*There is a separate cost for 9th grade Conversational Hebrew. Students who enroll in this class can participate in all other high school chugim at no additional charge.

Conversational Hebrew: This class is for HDS alumni at both TBE and BIC to review Hebrew vocabulary, grammar, and to practice conversational fluency through a variety of fun activities. Taught by Moreh Oren Segal.

Jewish Cooking For High Schoolers: Take a break from asynchronous learning to create a tasty Jewish dish. This class is open to students at BIC and TBE. Ingredient lists will be provided ahead of time. Taught by Jenny Traig.

Contemporary Issues and Judaism with Rav Nadav: Reading the Torah as adults, we will delve into issues such as personal identity, ethics of social media, vegetarianism, and other issues. This class is just for BIC students.

Jewish Monsters and Magic: Jewish tradition is filled with creatures and magic of all types. To find them, we will engage with Torah, Talmud and later Jewish rabbinic writings that describe angels, demons, ghosts, giants, golems, vampires, dybbuks and more! This class is open to BIC and TBE students. Taught by Jack Zaintz.

Torah is Not Just for Kids: Join teacher Aviva Panush to explore Torah stories with more mature or complicated content. We will reexamine the story of Creation, the real ending of the Noah story, and some of the complex family dynamics found in Genesis.
