Beth Israel is beginning to meet in person for services. Starting Friday, July 9, we will hold Friday Evening Services on the courtyard at 6:00 p.m. Friday Evening Services will move indoors in the case of rain. On Saturday, July 24, we will hold our first indoor Shabbat service in the sanctuary. All services will remain on Zoom and YouTube under the regular links. Unless noted, other events and classes will be held virtually for the time being.

Please Get Vaccinated Against COVID-19 as Soon as You Can

In support of the Jewish values of protecting life and health, Rabbi Caine, Rabbi Dobrusin, and the Board of Directors of Beth Israel Congregation urge all members who can, to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The available vaccines are safe and effective. Vaccination protects not only you, but also community members who have medical conditions that preclude vaccination and children who are not yet eligible to be vaccinated.

Learn more about where to get vaccinated by following this website, run by the Washtenaw County Health Department:

 https://www.washtenaw.org/3337/Where-to-Get-the-COVID-19-Vaccine

If you need assistance making an appointment, or getting to an appointment, please contact BIC’s Director of Engagement and Programming, Amanda Glucklich, at engage@bethisrael-aa.org, and she will connect you with a congregant who can help. There are BIC volunteer drivers who are fully vaccinated and readily available to give you a ride.

Passport to Shabbat: South Africa Book Club Discussion

    Wednesday, Jul 28th 8:00p to 9:00p
Read The Lion Seeker by Kenneth Bonert before this discussion, then join us to talk about it! In the tradition of the great immigrant sagas, The Lion Seeker brings us Isaac Helger, son of Lithuanian Jewish immigrants, surviving the streets of Johannesburg in the shadow of World War II Are you a stupid or a clever? Such is the refrain in Isaac Helger’s mind as he makes his way from redheaded hooligan to searching adolescent to striving young man on the make. His mother’s question haunts every choice. Are you a stupid or a clever? Will you find a way to lift your family out of Johannesburg’s poor inner city, to buy a house in the suburbs, to bring your aunts and cousins from Lithuania?
